} Monterey County occurs as county located on the Pacific coast of California, its northwestern section forming a southern half of Monterey Bay. When of 2000, the people was 401,762. A county seat is Salinas.

History
Monterey County was one of a original counties of California, created inside 1850 at the period of statehood. Area of the county were given to San Benito County in 1874.
